[Sunhelp] IDE disks for Ultra10

Is there any way to utilize a Quantum LM30 30GB hard drive
with an Ultra 10???

We have an Ultra 10 that we wanted to max out its hard drives.
contacted a vendor for such a disk, and was sold a Quantum LM30
that was packaged "30GB IDE Quantum Hard Drive For Sun Ultra 10"
after installing it, format only recognizes it as ~8GB.
Talked with Sun tech support - they say the Ultra 10 only supports
up to 9GB internal IDE disks 
(side note: the SunStore evidently has just come out with a 
supported 20GB IDE drive - availability "delayed")

Does anybody know of any tricks to get this unsupported disk
to be recognized as 30GB??
