Moshe,

/var/perserve is for when a user is in an editor and the line
drops or network connection is lost.  The contents of the
file is saved in /var/preserve/$LOGIN_ID/$LOST_FILES.

Users get an e-mail warning them of these files sent to
/var/mail/$LOGIN_ID informing them how to access these files.

You may want to schedule a weekly or monthly cron to delete
these files.

Also I usually forward their unix mail to their corporate mail acct.
