Hi,
I have a Sparc5 with a fresh install of solaris8. I want to use my HP
DeskJet 420 as the local printer with this machine. I've tried setting it
up with the parallel port cable connected from the printer to the serial
ports of the sparc and then using admintool to create the printcap
entry. when i do this and try to print the job seems to be accepted ok but
lpq shows nothing. I'm using the "HP Printer" filter (I know this is
hplaser, but I didn't see any better choices...). I know this will sound
pretty dumb, but on the back of the sparc is a connector with a
"//" symbol written underneath it. I'm assuming that this is the parallel
port, although it is not IEEE 1284, is this correct? if so, has anyone
ever seen an adaptor to convert to the IEEE style? or is there a way to
set it up through the serial port?
If anyone has been successful setting up a deskjet as a local printer and
can offer some advice, i'd really appreciate it!
thanks,
brian
