Hi,
I desperately need help. I have been trying to install Solaris on a =
Pentium 166 I had around for use as a server. I went out and bought a =
brand new Western Digital 13.6G E-IDE drive. I also have an old 4.5G =
drive as the boot drive in the system. The problem I am having is =
getting Solaris to see the whole drive. Currently I can only get it to =
see about 8G of the 13.6G drive. The physical geometry (also reported =
in BIOS) is:
CYLS: 26354
HEADS: 16
SECTOR: 63
Solaris is only seeing about 16000 cylinders no matter what I do. I =
have tried to set a custom type in format, but after it is saved, I go =
into FDISK and choose 100% for Solaris, it only does the first 16k =
cylinders. I can't make multiple partitions because it thinks it is =
using 100%. I verified the drive with a bootable version of Partition =
Magic I have. It reports the total formatable capacity as 12,971MB. If =
anyone can lead me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I am =
getting ready to give up on Solaris and get one of the Linux =
distributions at this rate.
PS - Is Solaris 8 x86 worth the $75 upgrade?
Thanks,
Scott
