Thanks so much for your speedy help.

It turns out my machine at RackSpace is SPARCStation-2 after all. This
document http://www.squirrel.com/squirrel/sun-nvram-hostid.faq.html
says that Dallas Semi chips won't work for that box. So we need to order
SGS-Thomson chips from Mouser. Problem is knowing which one:

Best bet would be to call and get it from Dallas Semiconductor in Dallas;
even with UPS Ground shipping you'll get it overnight.
