Unix desktops aren't a problem since you can just use standard X.
NT is more problematic, as I see it you've got three options, (other than
zapping the NT and replacing it with something waayyy better - e.g.
RedHat or Solaris! ;-) ) . . . .
1. Conventional (thick) X-client. As long as it supports Broadway
(LBX) you should be okay. WRQ's ReflectionsX looks pretty good and
fast.
2. Thin client. Various available, I've used GoGlobal from GraphOn
and it was pretty neat - and VERY fast to start or to use for telnet sessions.
Benchmark performance was a bit poor though. http://www.graphon.com/
3. Low cost stuff. It's just gotta be VNC http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
although performance with this ain't good, but it's still mega clever. Best
advice is
download and install, then give it a spin - after all it's free. Or at a pinch
you could try MiX which is a low cost (US$25 I believe per seat) 'proper'
X-server
which you can eval at http://www.microimages.com/mix/ (this *used* to be free
- grr!)
Opinions expressed herein are my own - please no flame wars!
