I've been running KDE for at least a year on Solaris SPARC (2.5 and 2.6).  
I compiled it from the tarballs.  You can also get binaries
in pkg format:

    http://download.sourceforge.net/mirrors/kde/stable/1.1.2/distribution/pkg/

KDE is designed for Unix desktops in general, and not specifically for Linux.
