On Sun4c hardware, run 2.5.1 (fully patched).  It was the best
(most stable, most proven) release for non-64-bit hardware.  For
Sun4u stuff, run sol8 in 64-bit mode.

(I know of TONS of sites that still run 2.5.1 because there's
simply no reason to upgrade at all...)
