Lord Bill of Bradford scripteth:

>IBM or Seagate..
>Never had an IBM fail on me. yet.

Previous job we had awful problems with a 'stiction' (apologies for spelling)
problem
on the IBM disks in our SGI's. Disks would make a slight whinning in use, then
they would
beep and not work on the next reboot. SGI ended up replacing a good load of
them, kindof
soured me on IBM product for a good while.

That said, in my current job IBM disks appear no more or less reliable than
anyone
elses. Performance wise they appear to be really good - put an UltraStar 9.1GB
in
a diddy little SS2 and it absolutely flies. We've had a few go u/s in our AIX
kit, but given
the usage they get, a few failures are to be expected.

Must admit to a personal bias towards Seagate or Quantum gear for reliability,
but I like
IBM technology.

Bob Cross.
