[Sunhelp] ethernet question

Hello, 

Is it possible to enable the Ethernet interface of an Ultra 5 even if it's
not physically connected to the network? I would like to assign 2 IP
addresses to the built-in ethernet card so that both could be pinged from
the workstation. Is this possible, or does the machine physically have to
be connected to the network for this to work? Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
