[Sunhelp] ptys

It's been a long time since I worked in SunOS 4.1.x, but I don't believe
there was a system file.  Isn't that Solaris 2 (SunOS 5) specific?  I seem
to remember something like /usr/kvm/sys (????)

A quick search of dejanews gave back an FAQ which contained the
following....

In SunOS 4.x, edit /usr/sys/<kernel_arch>/conf/<kernel_name> and change the
line that says 

pseudo-device  pty         # pseudo-tty's, also needed for SunView   to
pseudo-device  pty<num>    # pseudo-tty's, also needed for SunView   where
<num> is the number of ptys you want.  Then recompile and reinstall your
kernel in the usual way.  

For SunOS 4.x, you will have to create more pty special devices in /dev.
These are created by /dev/MAKEDEV in                     sets of 16,
numbered 0-15.  For   example, to create 96 ptys (6 sets of 16), run:
/dev/MAKEDEV pty0 pty1 pty2 pty3 pty4 pty5 SunOS 4.x is limited to a maximum
of 256 ptys. The default is 48.

What happened to your system file?  Someone change the default path? (try a
find...)

Try the following: 

Use adb to check what the value is in the running kernel. Must be logged in
as root.

Type: adb -k -w /dev/ksyms /dev/mem

physmem f8a6

Type: pt_cnt/D

pt_cnt:
pt_cnt:         48

Type: $q <==exit out of adb

Now you know what the value is set to.

I saw that in FAQ but when I went to check it I had no system file within
/etc, so that is why I ask, any ideas where this is set?
