We've got an E4000 here, and were advised that we can go to USII-336 cpus with 
no problems. The
USII-400 upgrade will require updating the box to Ex500 level, (there is a Sun 
Field Change kit to do
this, which is good - it's nice to know we've got an upgrade path!!). The 
problem is apparently that
the 250/336 cpu's only push the bus at 84MHz, whereas the 400's need 100MHz.

If you check out the midrange server area on the Sun web site you'll see what I 
mean. There used to
be a document that explained the differences between Ex000 and Ex500, but it 
appears to have been
deleted or moved.

If it was me I'd just take the 336's and smile, (just my personal opinion).
