[Sunhelp] Installing over the network?

Hi,

If there's no /etc/ethers, there's no boot over network!
The server can't capture and reply the client if it doesn't have/know the
ether address of the client.

Do these steps again:(ss2 is presumed to be your hostname!)

1. rm_install_client ss2

2. vi /etc/ethers
(create one, the address of the client can be obtained from the ok prompt by
typing "ok banner".)

This is how an /etc/ether file will look like:

(example)
# cat /etc/ethers
8:0:20:7b:a9:87 ss2

3. perform an add_install_client again, like this:

# ./add_install_client ss2 sun4m
saving original /etc/dfs/dfstab in /etc/dfs/dfstab.orig
Adding "share -F nfs -o ro,anon=0 /cdrom/sol_2_6_hw2_sparc_smcc_dt/s0" to
/etc/dfs/dfstab
making /tftpboot
enabling tftp in /etc/inetd.conf
starting rarpd
starting bootparamd
updating /etc/bootparams
copying inetboot to /tftpboot
#
** you must at least see some of these entries when you perform
add_install_client **

4. Once this is done, you are ready to boot over the network:

At the client end, JUST do this:

ok boot net (if it doesn't work, check the devalias as I have told you
before)

** Make sure you are on the same network, broadcasts don't work over
different networks**

Cheers and good luck
Morgan.G
