 Dougs' mention of using ssh utilities in place of telnet and ftp are so that 
you can access/transport your files in a more secure fashion than telnet/ftp 
allow you to do. Ssh is a utility that allows you to perform these exact 
functions only in an encrypted and more secure manner than sending logins/pwds
in clear text throughout the network.
