Hello all
Just wanted to say hi. I've recently acquired a SPARCbook 3 in pretty
good condition, with a SCSI floppy drive, 810 MB internal hard drive and
64 MB of memory. It is currently running Solaris 2.3, which is pretty
useless given that I don't have a cc compiler, and there doesn't appear
to be any binary installations of gcc available for Solaris of that
vintage. I've ordered a serial cable and SCSI cable, I have external
SCSI cdrom drives and hard drives.
I've found someone willing to share their Solaris 2.6 media so that plan
is to upgrade the software to 2.6 which I believe is the latest version
of Solaris that will run on it. I've found some information on the
internet about how to do the upgrade, I want to make completely sure
that I have the existing software in an archive before I scrub the disk.
I've also ordered some new NiCad cells to make a new battery, not
necessarily to run off, but to provide battery backup.
I've used Solaris on and off for years and in fact in my current work
environment I use a sunray to connect to work, so I still have to go
through openwindows in the morning (well, that's the way they are
configured anyway)!
Regards, Mark
