I tried to buy a couple of LCD displays on ebay, that I thought would be
compatible with the U40 ATI Cards and cables. I never had any luck. I
could get partial displays and torn displays, but was never able to get it
to work properly. There are so many different LCDs available and all of
them seem to be different in their interfaces. You really have to match the
exact LCD to get it to work.

My guess is that the backlight or inverter on yours is no good, or the
mosfet power switch on the video card is fried. Try connect it up again and
use a flashlight, pointed at the screen at an angle, to see if the display
is working.

Here is the info on he U40 video cards I have:
The part number for the the U40 ATI Video Card is: 910120001 REV A
They list a copyright date of 1999 TADPOLE-RDI
Serial Numbers I have are S/N T144250-105 and S/N T144440-008
These do not have the 10 pin motherboard connector by the 13W3 back video
connector.
They have one black (video - CON4) and one white (backlight - J3) connector,
back to back, pointing left and right on the back of the card.
One of them works completely, the other has color issues. I would trade the
working one for a creator card if you have one.

The U20 video card that I got working was:
The part number for the the U20 CARNOT ATI Video Card is: 910116602 REV B
They list a copyright date of 1997 RDI COMPUTER COMPANY
The Serial Number I have is S/N T064589-911
It does have the 10 pin motherboard connector by the 13W3 back video
connector.
It has one black (video - CON4) and one white (backlight - J3) connector,
facing each other, pointing up and down on the back of the card. There is
also a another set of pads for two more connectors on the back. I have seen
these populated on some boards (this is the error I made before).
The cable number on the compatible U20 LCD is RDI 930111801 REV A
I don't see a part number on the Backlight cable.
It is a 14" display.

That's a secret..... well ok, here is what I use:
(sparcb*, ultraboo*, powerlite, tadpole, rdi, "(sparc not*)", "(sparc
lap*)", "(sun lap*)", "(sun not*)")
-epson -projector -lamp -Lumen*
Category: Computers & Networking, Sort: Ending First

Hope the above helps.
