FWIW, my S3 tells me the framebuffer is a Weitek p9000 (whatever that is) and 
gives the following blurb in dmesg:

p90000 at sbus0: SBus slot 0 0x100000 and SBus slot 0 0x180000 and SBus slot 4 
0x1380000 and SBus slot 4 0x13c0000 and SBus slot 0 0x200000 and SBus slot 4 
0x13e0000 and SBus slot 4 0x1900000 SBus level 1 sparc ipl 2
p90000 is /iommu at 0,10000000/sbus at 0,10001000/p9000 at 0,100000
p9000:0: screen 640x480, 2097152 mappable
