Will the 3c589D cards work under Solaris? The pcelx manual page
(5.6/5.7) only reports 3c589B and 3c589C. I've a 3c589ET (branded
3com/Megahertz) which I can't get to work. It plumbs and comes 'up'
OK, but reports it's Ethernet address as ff:0:ff:0:ff:0 and the
'link' LED doesn't light on the hub. It works OK under Windoze.

If you have a 3c589D, can you try it? Just plug the card in, check
the kernel finds the card, and then ifconfig pcelxN plumb and check
the Ethernet address using ifconfig -a. There are plenty 'D's on
ebay, the 'B' and 'C' variants are somewhat harder to come by.
