I think your CD-ROM is the problem.

You need a drive that can be set to 512 byte block. Most Plextor, any Sun
OEM, some Sony, Yamaha, Matsushita and Toshiba drives will do.

Do a search in your favorite search engine for Sun CD-ROM FAQ and feed your
brain. The FAQ is good food.
