ew..  That is pathetic.  Many UPS's last longer than that in practice.  
Heck, even a Pentium laptop with a fan lasts almost that long.

It might help to know if someone's bought the car adapter.  Is the 
Tadpole's car adapter wired straight through, or is there a power 
supply in it?

I've been thinking of buying a plug like the one on the power adapter 
and wiring it to clips for a 12V NiCd Dewalt cordless drill battery.
