1. Tadpole Technology / Tadpole-RDI in the news
Tadpole acquires embedded motherboard specialist
"11/22/2000 Targeting increased revenues from the Sun computing space,
mobile computing and network infrastructure vendor, Tadpole Technology
plc, announced the acquisition of Cycle Computer Corp. Inc. of Cupertino,
CA, a company that specializes in high-density, rack mountable solutions
and embedded motherboards. The strategic acquisition of Cycle is subject
to approval by Tadpole's shareholders and will allow the mobile computing
vendor to extend its offerings to Sun Microsystems' customers, typically
those in the embedded OEM, telecommunications and networking markets"

2. Tadpole-RDI, $1.4 million contract from the US Marine Corps
Tadpole-RDI has won a further $1.4 million contract from the US Marine
Corps for the deployment of its VoyagerIIi line of portable servers in
global field operations of the USMC's Command Control Communications. The
order was secured by GTSI Corp. Inc, one of Tadpole-RDI's principal resellers
for US federal markets, and is an extension to a $1.5 million order to
Tadpole awarded earlier this year by the USMC. Tadpole-RDI's VoyagerIIi
servers are built around Sun Microsystems' technologies. One hundred percent
binary compatible with Sun desktops and office servers, VoyagerIIi servers
are powered by UltraSPARCIIi processors and can run the full 13,000 plus
inventory of Solaris 7 applications. The server has removable disk capacity
to 100GB and memory to 1GB. It weighs approximately 10 lbs., and has the
physical dimensions of a business telephone directory.

3. Tech Tip of the Month
Problem: How can I have a user without a password?
Solution: In addition to removing the password from /etc/shadow, you need
to take one of the following steps: Edit /etc/default/login and comment
out PASSREQ=YES or change it to PASSREQ=NO. This allows *all* users to
remove their password! The second way is to give a particular user no password
with the following entry in /etc/shadow: user::9092:9999:9999::::
4. Tadpole-RDI offers technology "Trade-Up" programs
"SPARC'd" by customer demand, Tadpole-RDI has extended its trade-up program
giving owners of UltraBookI, Voyager, TM SPARCbook and PowerLite systems
the opportunity to upgrade their computing systems to the latest technology.
For details on the attractive trade-in offers please email ams at tapolerdi.com.
5. Tadpole-RDI announces standard enhancement to the VoyagerIIi product
family
Tadpole-RDI announces an enhanced capability to the VoyagerIIi product
family. The VoyagerIIi has been redesigned to integrate the audio (16-bit
audio, 48KHz sampling rate stereo, internal beeper) and graphics functionality
onto a daughter card, freeing up the PCI expansion slot to accommodate
one -sized PCI card with a maximum length of 9.25 inches (235mm). The
standard VoyagerIIi systems shipped from Tadpole-RDI after November 1,
2000 will have this added capability.
