[rescue] Desk-height DEC "half rack"?

You are probably looking at a 12U rack. Half rack is at least 50" tall,
about the height of a Sun Enterprise E5000. A few weeks back I noticed at
work on some pallets some 12U racks like that. I think they came from a
company we acquired and I have no idea what happened to them. But I'm
pretty sure they were TrippLite. Might be a starting point. Top was metal,
but is would be trivial to add a wood top.
