In the early 90s, the UNIX vendors chased the "real" desktop business 
with entry-level products, but none of them were very successful.

$10k put into the PC market would buy you something that ran Windows 3.0 
at lightning speed.

$10k put into a SparcStation 1 / SGI Indy / HP 712 would get you a 
system that thrashed swap just to load the desktop.

It should not be surprising that businesses standardized on PC solutions.
