Why not use Solaris' SMF, I think the license is/was compatible.

Or maybe leave it alone?  After all, with VMs/containerization the need to calculate complicated dependencies is dropping, which was its main selling point AFAIK.

Disappointing.

Redhat employs the bulk of the systemd team, so it's their own product 
that they're releasing.

Same with the GCC snapshot.  Redhat bought Cygnus, so they had a 
non-trivial subset of gcc and egcs developers in-house.
