One of the nice things about ZFS is exactly that you *can* have a gaggle 
of datasets with their own mission-specific properties, without the 
administrative overhead of slicing up the disk itself into 8,195 pieces.

Admittedly, in the case of the FreeBSD installer defaults, the benefit 
of those custom properties is relatively small -- it's mostly to disable 
exec/setuid where it makes sense, and to customize compression settings 
(no need to compress ports distfiles for example).
