In areas where the minimum wage was increased, some workers asked for reduced
hours - seems their recent pay increase prevented them from getting:

SNAP/food stamps
Section 8 housing subsidy
Aid for women with dependent children
Free 'lifeline' cell phone
Free/heavily subsidized healthcare
Etc.

Some workers being offered 'living wages' preferred lower wages and public
assistance.
