The v880 did PCI *right*.

The peripherals were connected to multiple, independent PCI busses, so 
adding expansion cards wouldn't necessarily slow down your existing 
network/disk I/O.

These eventually became common features in PC servers, but they were 
certainly not common when the v880 came out.
