Point of reference:

The average HOUSEHOLD income in New Jersey is around $60-65K/yr and NJ is a
fairly high-income state, out of all 50.

An hourly rate of $25-40/hr x 1,800 hours is $45-72K/yr - that you once earned
more doesn't 't make those 'slave' wages.

As an additional data point, half of all Americans are classified as 'poor' or
'low-income', but that is mainly a 'math trick' since such calculations don't
include the cash value to the recipient of all state & federal assistance
programs they participate in... But that is a topic for for another list.
