original drives as well as a set of 500gb FC EMC pulls collecting dust. I had
planned to put the 500gb drives in the A5k and use it for home storage, but
problems getting the EMC drives to work, moving, getting married and starting
a new job put it on the back burner for a long time. As it stands now, the
A5k really no longer suits my needs as I don't currently have a basement and
the sound/heat output is undesirable in living areas.

You are probably aware of issues using the EMC disks, but I'll mention them
for posterity's sake:
1). 520-byte block size. Easily changed back to 512 with a mode select and
low-level format. There are a couple of ways to get this done; I can give
specifics if need be.
2) 12v-only power. I'm no expert on EMC, but most or all of their drives
I've encountered on the second-hand market were 12v only. It means that an
A5x00 chassis would have to be able to provide a boatload more current on 12v
than it was likely designed for, if loaded with 12v-only drives.

Good luck,
Jonathan
