ZFS is more than an amazing technology, it is a game changer.
I understand your concerns around Oracle's licensing, and if you can't
get past that, I believe that there are 24+ different open source
Solaris based distro to choose from. I am typing this email on an
OpenIndiana box.
And it's not just Solaris admins singing the ZFS praises. Check out
FreeBSD with ZFS.
And why not available straight from Apple, ZFS is available on Apple's
Unix platform, both free/open source, and (soon) a commercial release
from Ten's Compliment.
Or finally, if you are now a lunux person, ZFS is available either
through fuse or as a kernel port. http://zfsonlinux.org/
Only the dos/windows/OS/2 crowd is left out.
I'm sure you can reply back with a reason you can't use ZFS at $HOME,
but for the vast majority, there are plenty of options to get you there.
