This does not answer your question directly, but have you considered looking
at OpenBSD? It's a very nice OS and it's pretty light. The MACPPC supported
hardware list is here:

In case you can't get a hold of the OS 9 disc you are looking for, or even
if you can...it's nice to have a modern OS and newish packages on old
hardware. I have run OpenBSD on several machines with 512M of RAM and it
seems like it would even be happy with 256M. And the UP kernel is superb.
