I think this is my curtain-call for either an amusing or troubling anecdote:

I happened to be configuring a Unisys MPE 4668 (EISA-based 486DX2/66
machine, circa 1993) recently and it so happens that the documentation
specifically states that the extant PS/2 mouse port is not to be used!
and that only a serial mouse is to be connected to the machine when
running OS/2 2.1 otherwise erratic or unreliable operation would be
experienced, presumably due to some interrupt handling deficit.

I now feel differently about the lowly serial-port-based-mouse...
