Bear in mind that an external drive that accepts the SCSI-2 command set 
(regardless of the interface) will boot any SUN that has the 
"boot cdrom" command in its ROM.

Of all the computers you listed only the IPC does not have it.

Drives include all toshiba from the 3201b on up, Sony (including the Apple
branded CD-300, but not the Matsushita made 300+), and many others, but not
NEC.
