[rescue] Sun 3/80 Magic Smoke

In my case something is shorting and it is causing a resistor to smoke
(or what looks like a heavy surface mount resistor... maybe it isn't
a resistor and is a tantalum surface mount cap ????)

Q here is w/o a schematic, how do you know what to replace it with ?
