Yep, there's no easy replacement for a parallel port.  It's the closest
thing we have to a standardized geek port.

In my case, the add-on PCI parallel port card didn't work, but that's a
combination of the port, windows, and the braindead closed source driver
that only knows about the three legacy parallel port I/O addresses.
