This layout's the standard for South Africa. It's rated at 15A.
It was chosen, I suspect, to be easy to manufacture. I used
to have a plug from the 1890s in this layout: handmade from
mahogany, the pins made from solid brass turned on a lathe.
I think this is also the standard for India.
