Yep.

However, some folks buy 'em.  The guys I just bought my Volvo through have a
very recent Mustang GT parked among the Renaults and Citroens in front of
their garage.  There's also a big Seventies Oldsmobile around back.  The
Mustang looks pretty big, compared to the stuff you see on the roads here in
France, but the Olds is just plain huge.  I have no idea where they drive
it; at US$8.00 a gallon for gasoline, they probably don't drive it at all.

Our Volvo (an 850 Turbo Diesel wagon) is a small-medium sized car by US
standards, but it's pretty big by French standards; most folks here drive
itty-bitty things like the Renault Twingo or the  Peugeot 107. 

There are a number of roads you can't get through with anything much bigger
than a Twingo.  Some of the midiaeval villages require you to park outside
town if you car is over X centimeters wide, which our Volvo invariably is.
Even some of the famous tree-lined highways are pretty claustrophobic in the
Volvo.
