To all:

This Cisco PoE thing is not simple and they have their reasons for it. The
7940 & 7960 (with or without the G) are using Cisco labeled "Pre-Standard"
PoE. This means that the wires in pairs 3 & 4 of the Ethernet cables are
reversed and carry the power for the phones. They created this Pre before
the industry had actually settled on the 802.11af standard. You can create
cable to reverse this and they will work just fine as long as the PoE switch
has enought power on each port.

Also, the newer 7941s and 7961s support both methods. These newer Cisco
Phones have a little higher resolution screen, but no new features. The list
prices are $80 higher per phone and up until a couple of months ago, there
was no confirmation of a schedule for these phones to support SIP. That
means SCCP only unless you are connected to a GenBand(Tekelec) M6 switch.
Also, with the newer Cisco 7941, 7961 and 7970, you need to be careful
buying 3rd party power cubes. The socket on the phones are deeper by maybe
1/4 inch and the Cube 2 will not work. Make sure that you are buying the
Cube 3 equivalent which has a longer shaft.
