The POWER4 and later machines actually have a good amount of space for freeform text. Rather than
have the three digit code, you can now put a string there uses /etc/methods/showled. My workplace
uses it all the time for system status and alerts.

It's also nice to have a shell script write cheeky messages to an idiot user. :+)
