Interrupt latencies have not decreased in any meaningful manner in the last
25 years. It still takes of the order of a microsecond. Instead of pushing
the program counter onto the stack and loading a new value, it's now a
pipeline flush, dumping hundreds of bytes onto the stack, pipeline reload,
plus cache misses...
