Maybe I over-simlified the problem: The Linksys router *effectively* locks up, it fails to hand out any more DHCP numbers, but if I hard code an IP/Gateway/DNS host it works fine.

The hardware is fine (AFAIK), I personally suspect the problem is the (3rd party) software. I could go back to the original software, but I've decided I want a more robust solution, including a DMZ and an isolated WiFi to Internet subnet, so that I can have easy Internet access for visitng laptops with putting them on my internal network). I'd also like to learn a bit more about "real" routing using manly CLI interfaces ;^)
