When I last looked, all but critical security patches for Solaris 10
required a support contract, but that may have changed (particularly in
light of the recent changes in patch policy for Solaris 9 and earlier).

Yep, unfortunately the UltraSPARC-I CPUs aren't officially supported by
Solairs 10. There is an unofficial workaround (that I can pass along if
you're interested), but I've not tried it myself. NetBSD will run nicely on
that machine though, heh.

Indeed. The only problem is that Sun don't release patches for OpenSolaris
Community Edition - upgrades are full OS updates, rather than individual
patches. Rather annoying...
