I think the original post had to do with the "classic" confusion of Linux is Free (as in beer) vs. Linux is Free (as in free speech) - Acquisition costs approach $0 for Linux, but that install disc doesn't come with included System Admins that work for free...

Like all other software, Linux has it's benefits and it's draw-backs, and emacs aside, there is no one single program that can solve all problems ;^)
