In other words, you have a broken BIOS, and your problem has nothing to
do with PCs in general.

I have had a couple of Suns that had the same problem.

Really, most such problems shouldn't happen, but I've seen PCs and UNIX
machines both with some really stupid things in them.  

It boggles the mind because you would think after all these years we'd have
the simple stuff done right.
