Yes, you need what's known as a "paddle board" - this is a small PCB which 
slots vertically into the Netra T1 10x, which has on it the socket the 
laptop drive plugs into, some jumpers, and a header for the IDE cable.

The Netra will in general only work with the Toshiba laptop CDROM that Sun 
specified for it (due to Cable Select weirdness, IIRC), unless you link 
two of the pins on the paddle board. A Google for "Netra T1 DVD" will see 
you right - you have to do the same trick to get a laptop DVD drive 
working in one.

I'm unaware of any source of the paddle boards other than actually buying 
the Sun CDROM kit - I got one off feeBay for mine.

For the archives, the paddle board is PN 501-5491. The cable that connects 
it to the Netra is standard laptop IDE. The jumper (you have to solder 
it, it doesn't have pins) you link in order to use a non-Sun-specified 
laptop drive is R0301 (I went and got my paddle board to check the PN). 
Also FTA, the Sun-specified CDROM is a Toshiba XM-1902B, Sun PN 540-4179.
