According to the pictures on sun.com, the disk connects to the
motherboard.

Do you see anything identifiable on it?

Anything interesting in the dmesg (BTW, would you mind posting it?

It seems that FreeBSD can't identify the disk controller.  It says
things like:
pci9: <mass storage, ATA> at device 8.0 (no driver attached)
pcib10: <OFW PCI-PCI bridge> at device 0.2 on pci8
pci10: <OFW PCI bus> on pcib10
pci10: <serial bus, Fibre Channel> at device 1.0 (no driver attached)
pci10: <mass storage, SCSI> at device 2.0 (no driver attached)

Actually, that was a T2000 anyway.
