I looked for such a thing for a while, then went cf+sata way.

Plugged an IDE-to-Compact-Flash adapter into the IDE connector, and
added a SATA card (a Silicon Image 3512). System boots the Linux
kernel off the CF, then mounts its root fs of the SATA disk.

Not a cheap solution, but it works nicely. Of course, forget about
Solaris on that box. *BSD should be ok, though.
