Why not an external monitor and keyboard/mouse - tuck the laptop carcass under the counter?

Just a thought - all the parts you purchase could be used on another system if you ever do give up on your G3 iBook.

The repair price quoted seems high, esp. compared with completely rebuilt iBooks:

Apple refurbished G4 1.2 GHz iBooks are $699 at powermax.com
Used (not refurb) G3 600-800 MHz iBooks are $409+
