A couple months ago I picked up a big ol' ColorJet 8550 for $75. It
was a little dirty and needs a magenta toner cartridge, but works
fine. This model is as I type in a deep power-saving mode -- there's
nothing happening in this box. The controller appears to be in standy,
and it is listening to the network. When I print it warms up, but 30
minutes later it goes dark again.
But let's not talk about how much power it uses to warm up. ;^)
This is in contrast to my HP LJ4+, which always has an exhaust fan
spinning... The 4550 and 8550 should be fairly close in age, so maybe
it's worth looking at the settings?
