By legacy, I was meaning things like Irix, SunOS, Xenix, Sinix, etc.

I'm aware of JFFS, although JFFS2 is better and also available for
Linux.  Never seen a port to BSD.  Might be an interesting project.  I
have used JFFS2 in the context of eCos.
